Hurricane Melissa

We responded in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa, the strongest storm of 2025 and the first Category 5 hurricane to hit the country, swept away homes and entire communities.

Working with ShelterBox partners, Food for the Poor and Rotary, we supported thousands of people in Jamaica with shelter and essential items like blankets, mosquito nets, water carriers, and solar lights.

Our team was able to carry out distributions in 22 remote communities, generally in very hard to reach mountainous areas. These were often communities that had not received assistance of any kind since the hurricane had hit.

Earthquakes in Afghanistan

A series of powerful earthquakes in Afghanistan flattened entire communities. More than 2000 people lost their lives, with the shallow depth of the earthquakes being especially destructive.

Thousands of homes collapsed, mostly made from mud bricks and wood structures, leaving many people and families homeless.

We worked with our partner Islamic Relief Afghanistan to provide displaced people with tents and also warm clothing, thermal blankets, stoves and kitchen sets to help people survive the cold as winter approaches.

Earthquakes in Myanmar

Myanmar was struck by a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake, followed by significant aftershocks and tremors. One million people were forced from their homes and over 4000 people lost their lives.

There is an ongoing civil war in the country and heavy rains added an extra layer of complication to
already challenging conditions for people without adequate shelter.

We partnered with an organisation based in Myanmar to support thousands of people whose homes were damaged during the earthquake. We supported people from 36 rural villages across Mandalay state and Southern Shan state, repairing people’s homes so they last longer and can withstand the rainy season.
