For our website to remain PCI-Compliant, new regulations require us to redirect donors to a third-party website to ensure credit card donations continue to be processed securely. This is why ShelterBox Canada donors are now redirected to a website powered by Keela, a fundraising platform that provides charities with secure donation forms.
When giving to ShelterBox Canada, you are contributing to a general donation fund.
This helps us prepare for future disasters by positioning aid in warehouses placed strategically around the world, which means we can react quickly when disasters do take place.
We use your support to choose exactly the right aid for each community after disaster strikes.
In order for us to react quickly when disasters do take place, and to prepare for future disasters by positioning aid around the world, we are not usually able to accept time or location-specific donations.
In times of a major disaster or crisis where there is an extremely high humanitarian need for shelter, we will be able to take donations designated for those specific countries. This will be clearly stated. Any additional money raised over what is needed for our response will help us provide emergency shelter to families affected by disasters around the world. Outside of these crises, general donations will help us prepare and respond wherever we are needed most.
By giving ShelterBox Canada a general donation, you are helping us use your money to make the most difference to families in desperate need of shelter.
ShelterBox works very hard to ensure your generous donation makes the biggest impact possible. We keep our expenses as low as possible while maintaining professional systems that ensure your donations are processed and used responsibly.
Due to the nature of disaster relief, we see large influxes in funding when a major disaster is in the news. Our expense ratio therefore also fluctuates, but we aim for a rolling three year average of 80% of donations directly funding aid. If you have any further questions about how your donation is spent, please contact us at any time and we would be happy to discuss this with you.
All individual, personal donations will receive a charitable tax receipt. For donations made online through our website, tax receipts will be sent automatically via email once your gift has been processed.
If you are making your donation over the phone or in the mail, providing your email address ensures we can get your tax receipt to you faster. Otherwise, tax receipts will be mailed as soon as possible.
