Act for Humanity: How ShelterBox partners face the dangers of being humanitarians
Join us this World Humanitarian Day as we honour the courage and dedication of humanitarians worldwide.
Gaza is one of the most densely populated areas in the world. Since October 2022, the humanitarian need has become staggering. Nearly every home has been destroyed and 1.9 million people are displaced.
The need is vast. We are committed to doing as much as we can and we’re working on a plan to scale up the response whe access is allowed.
This remains an extremely challenging response, but with your support we can make a huge difference to people’s lives.
Your donation will support our ongoing response in Gaza as we look to scale our efforts – providing emergency shelter for those who so desperately need it.
The Gaza Strip is located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered by Egypt on the southwest and Israel on the east and north.
Gaza is one of the most densely populated places in the world. Before October 7th, Gaza was home to approximately 2.3 million people across just 141 square miles (41km wide by 10km wide). Since then, the exact number of people alive after months of airstrikes, destruction and starvation is unknown.
Families are unable to leave Gaza. Forced to move again and again in search of safety. But land, sea and air bombardments are making that near impossible. There are large areas cut off and people are continuously on the move.
ShelterBox has worked with organizations already working in Gaza to source and distribute essential aid and shelter.
We have taken a phased approach, working with different partners and using different aid routes to increase effectiveness in getting aid into an active conflict zone.
We have worked with Medical Aid for Palestinians, Social Development Forum, and PARC Agricultural Development Association. With these partners, we have supported around 15,000 people with emergency shelter and household items since 2023.
Through PARC, the construction of shelter is underway for the most vulnerable families along with the procurement items to tailor support for families living with disabilities (including adaptations such as accessibility ramps). We are also exploring the implementation of community fire safety packages and fire safety sessions.
The Rafah border crossing opened at the beginning of February 2026 for the first time in over a year. It has been closed again along with all checkpoints in the occupied West Bank as conflict has escalated across the Middle East.
