Leave a Gift in your Will
Leaving a legacy in your Will has a number of benefits:
- Your gift ensures ShelterBox is always prepared to help families
- A charitable tax receipt will be issued
- Planned gifts provide valuable tax credits on your final estate tax return
- You can make changes at any time to your will
- You can choose the amount and type of gift you wish to give
- A gift in a will doesn’t have to take away from what you plan to leave for loved ones
- You can make a gift larger than you ever thought possible, and it doesn’t cost you anything now
There are a number of options available. Your bequest to ShelterBox Canada can be one, or a combination of the following:
- A specific dollar amount
- A percentage of your estate
- The residual of your estate
Gifts will be used however they are needed most. If you would like to designate a specific use for your bequest, please contact us.
Our legal name is ShelterBox Canada. If you plan to include any of the above in your will, your lawyer should draft the relevant provisions to ensure your financial goals are taken into account and your tax situation is reviewed.
If you already have a will, you do not need it to include a bequest. Ask your legal advisor about the simple process of adding a codicil to your will.

What your gift can do
Tionge, along with his wife Mary and their three children were among the thousands of people affected by the floods that happened in Malawi in February 2024.
The home that Tionge had poured so much time into constructing for his family, had been so badly damaged by the floods that they had no choice but to leave it.
ShelterBox supported Tionge and many more families with tarpaulins, groundsheets, and tools for people to start making their damaged homes watertight. We also provided training on ways to use the tools.
Additionally, we also provided cash grants to help people re-build their livelihoods.
First, I must thank ShelterBox and CARE for assisting us today, we will be able to survive as a family and try to invest the cash which will be received into small scale businesses, the profits will be used to support our family needs.
